The aircraft
The SU-22 is a multi-purpose supersonic fighter and aerial reconnaissance bomber with a swept wing of variable geometry. It is located in the centre of the town of Banya, opposite the mayoralty, and was designed by the Sukhoi Design Bureau /USSR/. It has been in service with the Bulgarian Army since 1983.
Crew: one person. Empty weight: 10,500 kg. Take-off weight: 19,400 kg. Maximum speed: 1,350 km/h. Maximum flight altitude: 2,500 km. Combat radius: 500 km.
Armament: cannon armament 2 x 30 mm; bomb load up to 4,000 kg. System for carrying strike bombs and unguided rockets. Guided rockets: 2 self-defence missiles and 2–4 radio-guided air-to-ground missiles.
