Kishish Mahala

Along the Stryama River, 2 km from Banya, lies the small village of Kalugerovo /Kishish Mahala/. Hidden around it are many wells with cold spring water. Beech leaves have been found in the wells, which shows that the water comes from the Balkan Mountains.

The place is very secluded, and during Ottoman rule the local population hid there from the Turks. In “Kishisha” there were 2 rose distilleries and 2 wealthy houses belonging to their owners. From the rose distilleries, 2 large chimneys remain. One of the wealthy houses has been restored.
